Judge Whalen is honored to have received a rating of Outstanding from Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York (WBASNY). WBASNY conducts a rigorous and thorough evaluation of judicial candidates, resulting in an overall rating of Outstanding, Highly Qualified, Qualified, or Not Recommended. The ratings are based on competence in four categories: Judicial Temperament, Legal Reasoning Ability, Experience for the Position Sought, and Commitment to Women’s Issues and Community Issues.
As part of the detailed written application, Judge Whalen consented to allowing the WBASNY Judicial Committee to contact his educational institutions, the Grievance or Ethics Committee, the Judiciary or Relations Committee, the Commission on Judicial Conduct, as well as any other disciplinary or regulatory body or agency to ensure a thorough background investigation. Judge Whalen also submitted three judicial writing samples and participated in an in-person interview with the WBASNY Judiciary Committee.
Minority Bar Association of Western New York (MBAWNY)
Rating: SUPERIOR (highest available)
Judge Whalen is honored to have received a rating of Superior from the Minority Bar Association of Western New York (MBAWNY). The MBAWNY utilizes a four-level rating system of Superior, Well Qualified, Qualified, and Cannot Recommend. Candidates are rated on
criteria including experience, mental fitness, education, ethics, and involvement with the MBAWNY and minority community. In addition to completing a detailed written application, Judge Whalen also participated in a personal interview with members of the MBAWNY.
Judge Whalen is proud to be the only State Supreme Court Candidate to have received a Superior rating from the MBAWNY this year.
